  1. Install door sweeps on all exterior doors on your property, and also repair damaged screens that can give rodents access to your home.
  2. Fix screen vents and other opening to chimneys or anywhere else a rodent might enter the home.
  3. Seal all the cracks and holes on the outside of the property this includes areas where pipes, and other utilities enter the home. Using caulk or other silicon based products are great ways to seal these holes effectively.
  4. Store food in good containers that cannot be broken into, and are also air tight. Make sure that when you throw away food items in the garage to take it out as soon as possible, also to not draw in rodents to your home.
  5. Keep your home clean this includes attics, basements, and other areas that are not often frequented by humans.
  6. Examine the foundation of your home, and replace loose mortar and other weather stripping around the foundation or windows.
  7. Always inspect things that are brought into your home like boxes, grocery bags, and other packages especially if they have not been opened in a while.
  8. Eliminate stagnate water around your property or other water sources that rodents, and other pests can use to survive.
  9. Always store firewood or other wood at least 20 feet away from your property if possible as rodents often make their homes in woody areas.
  10. If you find a pest infestation at your property home or business contact a licensed pest professional like Johnny B’s Pest Control and let them come out and give you a plan to get rid of your infestation.
